Wildfire planning training at upcoming Western Planner Conference
Western Planner conference in Great Falls, MT (August 9-12, 2016). This full-day training will offer an in-depth look at how wildfires are affecting the West and which planning and regulatory tools can reduce their impacts at different scales. Case studies will come from several western jurisdictions, highlighting how to best integrate wildfire into the comprehensive plan and development code.
WPI hires Ben Yellin as new associate planner
WPI is thrilled to announce the hire of new associate planner, Ben Yellin. Ben recently earned his Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado, Denver. Ben also worked as an intern to WPI during his graduate studies.
WPI works with Michael Baker International on new initiative
Wildfire Planning International is pleased to be working with a select group of hazard mitigation planning consultants, including Michael Baker International, on the new Community Planning Assistance for CPAW program. Michael Baker International team members are assisting WPI in Wenatchee, WA to provide land use planning expertise.
New hazards planning guide available
The Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) Division of Local Government released a new Planning for Hazards: Land Use Solutions for Colorado guide and website designed to help Colorado communities prepare for natural disasters through increased hazard mitigation and resilience planning. WPI was part of a consultant team, offering its expertise on wildfire planning and wildland-urban interface resources and tools.
